The Rock and Roll song story
John Bonham wrote the introduction Rock and Roll, inspired by the intro to Little Richard's song Keep A Knockin. The drums on this song are played by Charles Connor, the original drummer for Little Richard (whose real name was Richard Penniman).

Funny enough, Charles Connor stated the following in an interview with notinhalloffame.com:

"Connor was flattered by the homage and thinks that Bonham was a great drummer but adds that Bonham didn’t have the 'red beans, rice, and gumbo' in the drum line that he had."

Rock and Roll was a live favorite for the band. For three years it was the opening song for most of the Led Zeppelin concerts. It was released as a promotional single in the US, with stereo and mono mixes on either side of the vinyl. Imagine artists doing that now, almost 50 years later. Go for it, Mark Ronson!

Even more precise, Rock and Roll is the second track from the band's fourth album in 1971. The track features Rolling Stones pianist Ian Stewart and has a tempo of 170 beats per minute. And here is Andy Gangadeen playing it at Remo Drummer Night in Manchester, on Saturday evening in the main room of The UK Drum Show.

During the 2017 Remo Drummer Night on the Saturday of The UK Drum Show, 17 drummers played a different song with an All Star band put together by Karl Brazil who couldn't attend himself because he was om tour in the USA with James Blunt.

Remo Drummer Night 2017 took place during The UK Drum show on Saturday September 23, 2017 in Manchester. Just like the Remo Drummer Night in 2008, the concert was organized to support the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The items that were auctioned the evening included donations from Rob Bourdon (Linkin Park), Will Champion (Coldplay), Nathan Followill (Kings of Leon), Simon Hanson (Squeeze), Taylor Hawkins and Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Pink Floyd's Nick Mason, Ian Matthews (Kasabian), Nico McBrain (Iron Maiden), Jamie Morrison (Stereophonics), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Zak Starkey (The Who) and Ronnie Vannucci Jr. (The Killers).
