Shawn Pelton is one of the most talented and in demand drummers on the New York session music scene. Shawn has been the drummer for the Saturday Night Live Band since 1992 and every week he proves his capabilities as a live player and sideman by covering a wide range of music and backing visiting performers as needed.
Shawn Pelton studied with Kenny Aronoff for seven years and attended Indiana U. where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree and a Performer's Certificate in Jazz Studies.
Shawn Pelton has performed and/or recorded with Shawn Colvin, Buddy Guy, The Brecker Brothers, Joan Osborne, Hall & Oates, Edie Brickell, Marc Cohn, Kim Richey, Peter Wolf, Bruce Springsteen, Peter Frampton, Robert Palmer, Billy Joel, Celine Dion, Bruce Hornsby, Adam Sandler and Vanessa Williams. Shawn has also subbed on both the David Letterman and Conan O'Brien shows.
Shawn has held the chair on the Saturday Night show the longest among a number of drum heavies including Chris Parker, Matt Chamberlain, Buddy Williams and Steve Gadd.
Jim Bogios departed in early Feb of 2003 to join the Counting Crows. He was seemlessly replaced by long Shawn Pelton.
Like Sheryl Crow, Shawn Pelton grew up in small town Missouri, but instead of moving to Los Angeles, Shawn packed up the turnip truck and headed to the East coast in 1988.
Shawn Pelton first played with Sheryl in December of 2000 when she returned to her home state to play a benefit concert in Cape Girardeau, MO. Since then he has recorded with Sheryl on 'C'mon C'mon', the I Am Sam Soundtrack and other Sheryl productions.
As his day job Shawn Pelton is one of the longest serving members of the Saturday Night Live band having held the enviable position of drummer since 1992. Highlights include almost wetting himself seeing Sinead O'Connnor rip up a picture of the Pope.
