Jason Barnes robotic cyborg drummer plays a piece of music that is straight out of something along the lines of "where sci fi meets nature". Check out metal footwork at 3:55. Amazing drumming with the cyborg drumming hand!
World First- Jason Barnes cyborg drummer, a student of the Institute of Music Atlanta (Atlanta Institute of Music and Media), playing composition using a programmable prosthesis. Science Festival in Atlanta, Kennesaw State University, USA, March 22, 2014
Jason lost his arm 2 years ago during an accident at work (an electric shock of over 22,000 thousand volts)
Then one year later enrolled in the drumming program at the Atlanta Institute of Music. The school was moved by his story. so much that one of his instructors Tom Knight, made a video about him and posted it on the school's website.
Then another instructor Eric Sanders connected him with the head of the musical robotics department at Georgia Tech and the rest is history. GaTech got a grant from the National Science Foundation to develop cutting edge technology that became the world's first cyborg drumming limb. Together they have created a prototype.(see video).
Jason did not really have time for training and development of the new "hand", but despite this he played with enthusiasm. Not bad for a prototype (this is not the final product).
