She is the Queen of Percussionand much more: Sheila E. is a percussionist, singer, songwriter, versatile session musician, and actress. As the daughter of renowned jazz percussionist Pete Escovedo (whom she is bringing along this year as a special guest), the American-born artist grew up with a passion for drums and congas.
Although the world came to know her in the mid-1980s as Princes creative partner-in-crime, she had already taken significant musical steps before then, playing percussion for artists such as Michael Jackson, Herbie Hancock, and Marvin Gaye. In the 1980s, her collaboration with His Royal Badness brought her worldwide fame and hits such as The Glamorous Life, The Belle of St. Mark, and A Love Bizarre.
Sheila E. remained a member of Princes backing band until the early 1990s and also worked with many other artists, including Phil Collins, Gloria Estefan, and Beyoncé.
