Antonio Escapa IV was born on December 4, 1980, on the beautiful tropical island of Puerto Rico. He quickly expressed his desire to experiment with music, drums and percussion. It was clear at a young age that passion and talent were a part of him as early as age ten.



At 14, Tony moved to Orlando, Florida. There he was trained in classical and marching percussion, as well as jazz. He also played professionally with his father, Antonio Escapa III, a professional musician for over 27 years. Tony describes his father as a profound and knowledgeable pianist and has been Tony's inspiration since the beginning of his drumming career.



In 1998, Tony returned to Puerto Rico and plunged into the music scene. While there, Tony became part of a program called "Berklee College of Music in Puerto Rico," which offers scholarships to attend the college in Boston. Tony was one of two recipients of a full scholarship to attend Berklee. In the winter of 2000, Tony moved to Boston and began attending Berklee College of Music. At the same time, he also played and recorded locally in the Boston area. At Berklee, Tony was recognized by his peers and the faculty as an outstanding and promising percussionist. As a result, he was asked to represent the college in Japan and the United States, and later as a spokesman for the college in Puerto Rico.



After moving to New York City, Tony quickly became part of the local Jazz scene playing with such artists as Simon Shaheen, Claudia Acuña, Miguel Zenon, Dana Leong, Jason Lindner, Caribbean Jazz Project, Wayne Krantz, Alfredo De la Fe, Obbie Bermudez, Christian McBride and Paquito D'Rivera, plus many other groups on the local New York music scene.



Tony is featured on three of Latin Percussion's instructional DVD's, and recorded the "Viva La Salsa" tribute to Latin music, El Reenceuentro 2005 along with Latin Grammy award nominee Paoli Mejias, Dana Leong and others. Tony was also a part of the Jazz Ambassador Program at the Kennedy Center of Arts and traveled to Central and Western Africa in the efforts of taking jazz influenced music to other parts of the world.



Tony is currently the touring drummer for Pop music superstar Ricky Martin. He has traveled the world with Ricky, including a performance at the 2006 Winter Olympics closing ceremony.



When not on tour with ricky martin he plays with Miguel Zenon, Claudia Acuña or Dana Leong in the NY area where he resides. He has recorded several instructional videos for LP also that are do out this year.
