Sonny has been playing drums since the age of 4. He started playing professionally with his father, Edward "Sonny" Emory, jr., a saxophone player, at the age of 7 and hasn't stopped since. He matriculated at Georgia State University receiving a B.A. in jazz performance. After graduating, he moved to Los Angeles to tour with Jean Luc-Ponty but that was only the beginning. Sonny played on several albums and CD's.
There are too many to name here, but some of the most memorable ones were: The B-52's "Cosmic Thing", Eric Clapton/David Sanborn's "Lethal Weapon II Soundtrack", Earth, Wind and Fire's "Heritage CD", Paula Abdul's "You", Bobby Lyle's "Rhythm Stories", George Howard's "When Summer comes and Attitude Adjustment", Urban Knights "Urban Knights Project", Lee Ritenour's "Twist of Marley", Steely Dan's "Two Against Nature" and his own band's CD entitled "Hypnofunk featuring Sonny Emory".
Sonny has also had the opportunity to tour with such music greats as: Earth, Wind and Fire, Stanley Clark, Al Jarreau, Jonathon Butler, Bette Midler, Lee Ritenour, David Sanborn, Will Downing and Frankie Beverly and Maze and he looks forward to touring with Bruce, of course. Sonny loves all genres of music and says, "This tour is going to be a blast because Bruce's music really lets a drummer stretch out and have fun!"
