Simon Phillips gave a regular clinic at Drumland Drum Store in The Netherlands on the first of May, 2014. However, 'Insane' would probably be the right word to use for this evening. Insane in the way that his playing is his own, his sound is what he is, his drums being just the perfect tools for the music he makes, and his overwhelming personality makes him one of the best out there.
This album features several videos of Simon playing during the clinic. Including 'Moments of Fortune' from his album Protocol II and 'Village' from Steve Weingart's album Dialogue from 2011.
This is part 2 of Simon Phillips' warm-up exercises, as part of three. If you nail only 10% of his level, you will do more than fine as a drummer on rudiments and fills. Already published on Drummerszone.com in 2014, but straight from the Drummerszone Vault, now also on YouTube.
Simon Phillips plays several rudiments on the snare. A few quick lessons on how to create your own variations with these basic rudiments:
- Ratamacue ~ in three different ways
- Triplets with flams
- single, double and triplet Paradiddles ~ combined!
- and finally: swapping them all to make you mind work better with these patterns
This video was recorded during Simon Phillips' clinic at Drumland Drum Store in Lijnden, The Netherlands.
