Here's another great video that Anup Sastry made, where he demos the Meinl Classics Custom Dark cymbals that he has come to enjoy so much.
Anup's cymbal set up from left to right, if sitting behind the kit, is as follows:
- 19" Classics Custom Dark Crash
- 16" Classics Custom Trash Crash
- 14" Classics Custom Dark Hats
- 18" Classics Custom Dark Crash
- 20" Classics Custom Dark Ride
- 20" Classics Custom Dark Crash
- 18" Classics Custom Trash Crash
- 16" Classics Custom Dark Crash
- 18" Classics Custom Trash China
- 8" Classics Custom Bell
Anup says:
"So I've been wanting to do something like this for a while, where I basically just jam out to a song. I feel like there aren't any proper videos of me full on improvising, and I want to start changing that. Playing to hip hop and rap songs is actually a large part of my practice these days. I can easily spend two or three hours jamming out to playlists I've made consisting of rap, hip hop, and R&B tracks... This is a song called 'All That' by Dillon Francis. Its off of his most recent album titled 'Money Sucks, Friends Rule'.
This video also serves the purpose to act as a demo for the Meinl Classics Custom line. I absolutely love some of these cymbals, and I've made a lot of them a permanent part of my setup.
I've also tried some different things mix wise. I stopped gating on my snare and tom tracks. Im also relying heavily on parallel compression and room mic's. I have a pair of SM 81's down the hall from the drum room, and I have a pair of MXL 604's directly behind me. Both pairs of rooms mic's are setup as a near-coincident pair. Below is a detailed list of the mic's Im using:
