Lady Gaga was nominated thirteen times - a new record - and eventually took home eight awards: seven for Bad Romance and one for Telephone.

Lady Gaga accepted the Video of the Year awards wearing a controversial dress made from cuts of meat. During her speech she revealed her upcoming album\'s title, \'Born This Way\' and sang a portion of the title track.

Lady Gaga\'s win tied A-Ha\'s Take on Me in 1986 for the second highest number of wins.

Justin Bieber, only sixteen years old, won Best New Artist, making him the youngest person to ever win a VMA.

Towards the end of his VMA performance, Justin Bieber took over percussion from his regular sticksman Joey Williams for a drum solo. After a few seconds, Justin accidentally lost one of his sticks. But the pop star recovered quickly without any damage done to his set.
