On May 24 and 25, 2014 the second edition of the Sonor Days took place in Bad Berleburg in Germany. After four years since the first festival the line-up of the two day event mentioned some serious artists from the Sonor roster: Chris Coleman, Jojo Mayer, Jost Nickel, Stephan Emig, Nené Vásquez, Rodrigo Rodrigeuz, Ruven Ruppik and many others. This article features two of the artists performing: the opening act of the festival, RhythmTalk and one of the world's all-time favorites: Chris Coleman.
RhythmTalk RhythmTalk opened the 2014 edition of the Sonor Days. The drum and percussion trio consisting of drummer Noby Lehmann and percussionists/drummers Ruedi Maurer and Christoph Blattner plays percussion pieces for drums, percussion, electronic drums and other more exotic instruments. Noby Lehmann is owner and founder of the Agostini Drum School Schweiz in Olten, Switzerland. Both Ruedi Maurer and Christoph Blattner teach or are guest teachers at the institute. Undoubtedly all three are excellent performers on their respective instruments, and the show was a perfect opener for the festival: not too much drum violence in the early morning, well thought trough pieces and plenty of musicality to keep you entertained.
Chris Coleman There are four vidoes of Chris Coleman playing an amazing drum solo as second artists at the Sonor Days. Not just because he can pull that off easily, but due to some technical problems with the laptop. Chris didn't really care about that and played the roof off the main stage at the festival.
Chris Coleman is one of those drummers you can see anywhere on the planet, with any kind of artist or situation imaginable. He has every single corner of music covered in his playing. When not on a drum festival, he performs or plays with friends on sessions or is recording in the studio. From the hard hitting, fast double bass drum kicker he is to the smooth and soft Jazz vibes, he plays it all.
Everybody knows Chris' main references from the past 15 years: Prince, Chaka Khan and of course touring with the reunited New Kids on The Block. In 1999 he graduated with honors from the Drummer's Collective. He was offered a scholarship to Berklee School of Music, got accepted into Manhattan School of Music, and received a recommendation from Ed Soph to attend North Texas State. In 2001 he won first place in the National Drum Competition sponsored by Guitar Center, which hosted 30,000 drummers. After that his career has been going upward ever since.
