His influence is heard through generations of drummers and musicians. Reason enough to have him play and talk about the bible of rock history that he just is at the Adams Drummers Festival.
Know that drummers from the era of Ian Paice did not grow up with rock music and rock drumming legends. He was one of the first that made rock drumming as we know it today. Metal didn't even exist when Deep Purple and similar bands took over the world with their world shocking guitar chords, heavy beats and alike lyrics. Bands like Deep Purple and Black Sabbath where 'Early adopters', as we call them nowadays - way ahead of their generation.
Ian Paice is one of those scare legends that paved the way for many drummers inspired by Deep Purple and Ian's enormous open grooves and rhythms. More important: giving them the drive to study drums because of what he played with the legendary rock band.
That being said, Ian Paice is one of those drummers that can translate patterns that seem difficult on the drums at first to an easy learnable figure or rhythm on the drums. As long as you get it, you can do the same as Ian. You will never sound like him, but you will know where the history of rock drumming comes from. At least for a big part of it!
