"The great thing about Superman is that everybody loves Superman. It's very easy making the call and saying, 'Hey, can you come?' I remember phoning Pharrell and him saying, 'I'm right in the middle of producing the Beyonce album in Miami.' 'Jason Bonham's in Miami, and he's getting on a plane!' Next morning, there's Pharrell, looking a little bleary-eyed."

Surround on your headphones
The 'Man of Steel' soundtrack also means the debut of the new DTS Headphone:X technology, which allows a virtual 11.1 surround sound to be heard through a standard pair of headphones. With DTS Headphone:X, it sounds like the listener is surrounded by the drums.
In 2012 Ross Garfield of Los Angeles-bases drum rental and sound specialists Drum Doctors got a call from Hans Zimmer's assistant, who wanted him to see a YouTube video of marching band guys all playing the same rig, all playing the exact same parts. The assistant then asked if Ross could think up some ideas to present to Hans on how to make it 'bigger-sounding'.
Ross came up with a concept that Hans loved and should start putting together ten kits. The day of the session, Ross discovered he was participating in the soundtrack for the new Superman film. Recalls Ross:
"As they began to record, I kept an eye on all of them to make sure everything was working and each drum stayed tuned, and basically, that there were no problems. (...) I was running around, changing heads, swapping snares, and taping drums to their stands. It’s one thing to keep one or two guys together at a time, it's another to keep ten players tuned and ready when they’re asked to play really hard. I've never been pulled in so many directions at once before, but it was very cool watching it go down and I can't wait for everyone to hear it."
