Drum Workshop (DW) and Guitar Center, the biggest chain of musical instrument retailers in the USA, have announced new dates for the DW 40 Years Clinic Tour. The new dates will feature clinics by Gil Sharone, Dave Elitch and Tony Royster Jr.
DW will be driving in to each location with their mobile marketing trailer, which has a full outdoor stage where the artists will be performing. About the artists Dave Elitch may have seemed to take on the world overnight for his work with progressive rock band The Mars Volta. In fact, he perfected his craft studying with the likes of Frank Briggs and Billy Ward, and attending Santa Monica College. Today, Dave is also one of the most in-demand private teachers in the LA area.
Tony Royster Jr was already a drumming prodigy by age three. At eleven years old, he won the Guitar Center National Drum-Off competition, beating musicians twice his age. In 1997 he was the youngest artist to perform at the Modern Drummer festival. Tony was also voted #1 Up-and-Coming Drummer in the 2000 Modern Drummer readers' poll. He performed on the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards show at the age of 15. In 2009 he performed with with Jay-Z at president Barack Obama’s inaugural ball.
Gil Sharone is member of the band Stolen Babies, and formerly The Dillinger Escape Plan. He was also a fill in for Mark Hoppus's band Plus-44 when Travis Barker broke his arm in 2007. Gil released his dvd 'Wicked Beats', based on the drumming styles of Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae, through Hudson Music late 2010.
