The WFD world finals was held as a feature at Summer NAMM 2014 in Nashville's Music City Center.

The WFD competition consists of two categories: battle of the hands and battle of the feet. The preliminary heats were held July 17 and 18.

The top ten fastest hands and top ten fastest feet then stepped into battle at WFD world finals on Saturday, July 19. All scores in both categories are based on single stroke rolls as recorded by the Drumometer.

Included in the event were technical demonstrations, insight sessions and appearances by WFD champions and world record holders Matt Smith, Eric Okamoto and Randy Briggs. Also appearing was the ever lovely and talented Miss WFD 2014 Melissa Mabry.

Eric Okamoto set several WFD World Records for various rudiments including ratamacue, 7-stroke roll, paradiddle-diddle and multiple stroke roll categories.

Battle of the feet winners
The battle of the feet winner was Perry Dattilo of Robards, Kentucky with a score of 840 singles, followed by second place Evan Lane of Muscle Shoals, Alabama (817 strokes), and third place Isaac Harris of Johnson City, Tennessee (802 strokes).

Dan Laskowski of Windsor, Canada celebrated his twelfth year as a WFD top 5 contender with a very respectable 771 singles in 60 seconds.

Battle of the hands winners
The battle of the hands winner was 20-year-old Peng Wang of Beijing, China with an amazing 1049 singles in 60 seconds. Braxton Burke of Langley, Kentucky placed second (1003 strokes), while battle of the feet winner Perry Dattilo placed third with 930 single strokes. WFD welcomes Peng and Braxton to the WFD 1000 Club!

Boo McAfee, creator of WFD, says the crowd at this year’s finals was insane- packed out, standing in chairs, screaming like a mad house. Boo:

"The contestants were from all over the world including China, Turkey, Canada and Italy! We had so many to participate in the prelims that we ended up running the top 28 in finals."

Grand prizes were provided by Pearl, Sabian, Remo, Vic Firth, Axis, Modern Drummer, Alfred Publishing, and Drumometer.
