\"What started as a small swap-meet with less than a dozen vintage drum collectors 20 years ago has evolved into a major international percussion industry happening. I now plan this show as an entertainment event: there are not only exhibits, but clinics, educational sessions, multi-media presentations, and drum circles. Everything is tied together by an audio-visual system.\'
Drum clinics
This year\'s clinic program features artists such as:
Commenting on the clinician roster, Rob Cook says:
\"The roster for this special anniversary show has a decidedly Chicago flare. Bun E has been a Chicago Drum Show fixture since the first show 20 years ago, and lives nearby. Denny Seiwell is not a Chicago native, but studied here under the famous Roy Knapp, who also taught the likes of Hal Blaine and Gene Krupa. Local starlet Hannah Ford turns 20 this year, and did her first clinic here when she was just 16. Gregg Potter is also local and has been a big hit as clinic MC the last few years. We pretty much had to promote him to a full clinic slot this year in honor of his recent Emmy win. Danny Seraphine- is there another drummer that better says “Chicago?” He packed the house last year and we expect another big crowd this year. Joe Morello is not from Chicago, but was an honorary member of the Ludwig family and a fitting icon for this special show.\"
DW Master Class program
Joe Morello, Denny Seiwell and Danny Seraphine will also present master classes as part of the DW Master Class program, which is going into its third year now. The program has really been embraced by showgoers as it gives drummers the chance to interact with great players in an intimate setting. Prentice practice pads, the official pad of the Chicago Drum Show, provides pads for Master Class Attendees to use.
Two special multi-media presentations are planned for the Master Class room: Don Lombardi will present a program on the history of DW, Fred & Dinah Gretsch will present a program on the history of Gretsch drums.
Silent auction
New for 2010 is a silent auction. The limited-edition Ludwig Bun E Carlos signature series glass glitter kit that Carlos uses in his clinic to kick the show off Saturday morning will be auctioned off to the highest bidder, with bids starting at $1.00. Whoever is the high bidder when the auction closes at 4 on Sunday will own a true collectable; this is one of the last 8 kits available from Ludwig in this 50-kit limited edition series with a retail price of $3,800.00
Raffle program
The ever-popular raffle program is being supersized in 2010, thanks to Johnny Craviotto and the Craviotto Drum Company. The grand prize is a complete Craviotto kit, fitted with special engraved plates in honor of the occasion. Other raffle prizes include cymbals from Supernaturals and a snare drum from Drum Foundry.
