Brian Tichy the guitarist
First, before going into details on his drumming, Brian is also an excellent and respected guitar player. You can hear him playing guitar on several albums with former Dream Theater member Derek Sherinian and with his own band S.U.N. (Something Unto Nothing), with Sass Jordan on vocals. Brian is also drummer on Sass Jordan's breakthrough album 'Rats' (1994) with the world wide hit song High Road Easy.

Brian is also the creator of the Randy Rhoads Remembered Celebration Events. He produced and plays drums on 'Randy Rhoads Remembered Vol. I'. Fun fact: Ray Luzier is on it as well, playing Ozzy Osbourne's No Bone Movies.

As said, his cv is filled with big names in music. He has recorded and performed with amongst others Zakk Wylde, Billy Idol, Ozzy Osbourne, Seether, Velvet Revolver, Foreigner, Pride & Glory, Glenn Hughes, Slash's Snakepit and was a member of Whitesnake for three years as well.

He studied at Berklee taught by Tommy Campbell, whom he mentioned specifically during his show at LDS 2014. Also he talked about Steve Smith's Vital Information, Steve Gadd, Terry Bozzio and Dennis Chambers being some of his major influences. In his own words: "I just ate all that up."

When asked about playing Ghost Notes during his clinic, he shared one of his ground breaking moments; when he heard and learned Pete Townshend's song Give Blood with Simon Phillips on drums. This track from the album 'White City: A Novel' features one of his most inspiring ghost note-patterns that Simon Phillips recorded in 1985. (Listen to Give Blood on spotify.)

His teaching skills emerged during the Q&A at the London Drum Show as well. Not only when showing how ghost notes make his playing more fun - and nice. Also when asked about speed and endurance, he broke it all down to what really needs to be done when you want to develop skills. He gave a quick, and one of the best suggestions there are on technique as well...

"Watch Jojo Mayer break down technique on his dvd's. It's beautiful!

But it comes down to practicing... slow, medium and fast. Start slow and things will get familiar and easier. Just really focus on it and watch what you're doing. And make sure it is flowing."

And, he mentioned that most important part of it all: the passion. For sure, Brian is the personification of that in person and in his playing. And that fully devoted passion is exactly what you get in the five videos on the right.
