Earlier in our NAMM 2013 reports we showed the Gen16 Direct Source Pickups presented by John Roderick. But the Avedis Zildjian Company launched some very interesting new acoustic cymbals as well: now the A Zildjian cymbals have enhanced and new models and an updated logo, there are three new and larger sized ZBT models. Also there are new artist series drumsticks coming from no one less than the legendary Ringo Starr, and some stunning videos with Russ Miller presenting the A series and highlights from his performances at NAMM 2013.
New A Zildjian cymbals As always Zildjian wants to be in pace with the evolution of musical styles and sound development, while not losing the essence of their cymbal sounds. Listening to user's experiences, wishes and other requests to improve the cymbals, they have made adjustments to the curvature and weights of the A Zildjian line, resulting in enhanced crashes, rides and hats.
Zildjian has revised 20 of the A Series cymbals. In 2013 Zildjian is also re-introducing the 19" and 20" A Zildjian Thin Crashes and 20" A Zildjian Medium Thin Crash, and introducing a new 23" A Zildjian Sweet Ride.

The 19" and 20" A Zildjian Thin Crashes and the 20" A Zildjian Medium Thin Crash offer drummers larger sizes; a classic, full-bodied sound; and a broad sonic range and wash that speaks to today’s musical styles. The new 23" Medium Thin A Zildjian Sweet Ride, inspired by the bestselling 21" model, offers clean stick definition for riding as well as a powerful crash component, making this a dynamic and versatile cymbal that can be used in almost any musical setting.

New ZBT models The ZBT series have three new, larger size models in 2013: the Medium Thin 17" and 19" ZBT Crashes and the Medium 22" ZBT Ride. In addition, the entire ZBT line will have a new enhanced look, with lathing on both sides of the cymbals and an updated, contemporary logo. The new 17" ZBT Crash and 22" ZBT Ride will be featured in the ZBTX390 Box Set beginning in May 2013.

In 2013 the ZBTs will feature lathing on both sides of the cymbal, a traditional finish, and a newly re-designed logo. The ZHT line will get an updated logo that is more in keeping with the graphic style of the Zildjian Company logo.
There is some bad news for the drummers that play the ZBT Rock models; they will be discontinued in 2013.
Ringo Starr Ringo Starr joined the drumstick department of Zildjian to create an all new Zildjian Artist Series Drumstick. Naturally, at NAMM all the sticks on display were stolen in no-time, but Ringo helped the Zildjian Company design a very versatile stick with 5A type dimensions, an elongated oval tip, and our exclusive DIP coating in a vibrant purple color. The stick is imprinted with the artist’s signature and his trademark star.
The Ringo Starr Artist Model Drumstick should be in stores in March of 2013.
