It's almost there: you can enter the Hit Like A Girl 2018 contest on March 1, 2018. It is already the seventh annual global drumming contest for female percussionists - sorry boys! Hit Like A Girl, grows bigger every year, and also has a side-contest called Beats By Girlz. The 2018 theme: Break Through The HLAG organization has chosen the theme "Break Through" as an acknowledgement of the progress already made in shattering barriers and stereotypes as well as a call to action aimed at empowering more women and girls to become players. This edition is sponsored by Zildjian, Ludwig, Sabian, Roland, Drum! and Mapex.

The backing tracks Anika Nilles, Kaz Rodriguez and Mark Colenburg and other artists provided nearly three dozen backing tracks. They are available to contestants in the 2018 Hit Like A Girl international contest for female drummers.
The downloadable tracks can be accessed on the hitlikeagirlcontest.com/hlag-backing-tracks page of the contest's website. They are recommended but not required and are offered in a selection of Easy, Intermediate and Advanced difficulty levels.

Weekly Contests: March 1, 2018 – April 11, 2018 Each week during the six week entry period, an esteemed team of judges made up of drum industry executives and top female drummers and percussionists representing our Presenting Sponsors will select one winner from each age group. Weekly Winners will be announced weekly beginning March 14, 2018. Weekly Winners automatically become Finalists.
Public Voting: April 12, 2018 – April 25, 2018 Public, online voting for will be open to all entries and contestants. Friends, fans and family can each vote once per video per day. In order to vote a person must create a profile and be signed on through HLAG. The entries in the under and over 18 age division with the most votes by April 25 will become Finalists.
Wild Card Selection A limited number of entries selected by Hit Like A Girl will be added to the Finalists as Wild Cards. These entries will be chosen based on their drumming skills and presentation.
Celebrity Judging: May 3, 2018 – May 16, 2018 The Finalists in the Drumset, World, Concert and Marching Percussion categories will be announced on May 2, 2018 and judged by a panel of the world's top female and male drummers during the following 2-week period. The Champions and Runners-Up will be determined using standardized score sheets.
The Finals: May 24, 2018 The 2018 Hit Like A Girl Champions, winners and runners-up will be announced via live webcast May 24, 2018 at 6:00 PM PST. The Awards Show will feature videos of top finalists and winners as well as appearances and performances by celebrity drummers, judges and guest hosts.
Beats By Girlz empowers young girls to create their own beats and compositions by using technology, including drum pads, drum machines, loop stations, computers and other electronic devices and software. They currently have chapters in 6 US cities and are growing rapidly. HLAG will be collaborating with BBG to offer a new Rhythm Technology category for this year's Hit Like A Girl contest. We are very excited about this addition to our contest.
HLAG + BBG 2018 is the first annual global drum programming contest for female producers. Its purpose is to spotlight female beat makers/producers and encourage females to engage in music technology. The event is produced by Hit Like A Girl Contest in partnership with Beats By Girlz and our activities are made possible by the generous support of our partners, Ableton, ROLI and Sensel.
