Calling all UK drummers: now you have the chance to help a great cause, all whilst having huge amounts of fun and be part of a world record breaking event.
DrumBEAT 2014 will see 1001 drummers (yes that's right, 1001 drummers!) gather together in a very large space to play together, in time with each other, for five minutes to beat the Guinness world record for the 'largest full drum kit ensemble'.
The current record stands at 798 drummers which was set in 2012. With your help we can smash that record and, in the process, raise a lot of money for a very worthy cause.
By taking part in DrumBEAT you are joining the fight to beat brain tumours, the biggest cancer killer of the under 40s. The Brain Tumour Charity is the only national charity in the UK making a difference every day to the lives of people with a brain tumour and their families.
The Brain Tumour Charity funds pioneering research to increase survival and improve treatment options. They also work to raise awareness of the symptoms and effects of brain tumours to get earlier diagnosis and to help families cope with everything that the diagnosis of a brain tumour brings. A support service is also provided for everyone affected so that they can live as full a life as possible, with the best quality of life.
The event is partly dedicated to the memory of Jon Brookes, drummer with the Charlatans, who died suddenly last year after suffering a brain tumour.
Date and location DrumBEAT will take place at EventCity Manchester on Friday 21st November, in association with Rhythm magazine, The Music Show, Natal Drums and the Music Shipping Company.
To take part To be eligible to take part all you need is to be able to play competently a simple 4/4, four bar beat that consists of three bars of a bass drum, snare and hi hat beat, and a one bar fill. Very simple! You will need to bring your own drum kit, and if you are under 16 years old you will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Every participant will get a goody bag which will include a limited edition commemorative Aquarian snare head and a pack of Hearos ear plugs (it will be loud!).
