Inclusing a demo/drum solo and an ode to Sabian from the master himself
The Max Series from 2000, also designed with Mike Portnoy, were:
- HH High Max Stax - 8″ Max Stax China Kang over an 8″ Max Stax Splash (not available at Sabian anymore)
- HH Mid Max Stax - 10″ Max Stax China Kang over a 10″ Max Stax Splash
- HH Low Max Stax - 12″ Max Stax China Kang over a 14″ Max Stax Crash
- and the 7", 9" and 11" AAX MAX Splashes
HHX MAX Ride
The 22" HHX MAX Ride draws inspiration from two of Mike's favorites, the 22" HH Rock Ride Brilliant and the 40th Anniversary Artisan Raw Bell Dry Ride. Blending HH and HHX hammering, it features a fully lathed bow topped by a large un-lathed HHX hammered bell adding depth and character.
This new ride takes elements from Mike's long-standing favorite ride used with Dream Theatre for many years, the 22″ HH Rock Ride Brilliant and his more recent favorite the 40th Anniversary Artisan Raw Bell Dry Ride. The 22″ HHX Max Ride combines HH and HHX hammering. It is lathed on the bow to the edge on both the top and bottom and finished with an un-lathed HHX hammered bell.? The MAX Ride is a medium/heavy weight crashable powerhouse with a brilliant finish.

AAX MAXX Splashes
Mike's new cymbals start with a redesign of the original AAX MAX Splashes. The new 7, 9, 11" AAX MAXX Splashes have a larger-raw bell and new shape that makes them slightly stiffer than the originals, making for more volume and projection without a strong fundamental pitch.

AA MAX Chimes
The new 6, 6.5, 7" AA MAX Chimes. Thinner than a cup chime or ice bell, but much thicker than a splash, these small chimes sound great on their own or mount them upside down on top of other cymbals like Mike does. Crisp, clear and well defined. Available individually and as a set of three.
