Once again, Benny Greb surprises the drum community with a new and different approach to time keeping. The Gap Click metronome can actually leave gaps in the sequence to train your sense of tempo in a more efficient and highly creative way. But it can do a lot more.
Although Benny calls it a 'time keeping app for amateur musicians,' it can do enough to keep you studying for years. The app is a great extension to his method 'The Art and Science of Groove,' which is focused heavily on keeping time.
What is the Gap Click In the app, you can configure a gap where the metronome will be silent. Hence, the trick is to keep playing without losing tempo.
With that, you can Move the Click to play off-beat patterns. So, not only steady on the 1 all the way to 3, 4, 5 or 7 (the app has these four quarter-note time signatures), but the app can also play the subdivisions of the beat. Of course, other metronomes like the Tama Rhythm Watch do that as well, but it is a cool feature that makes it possible to play a multitude of syncopated patterns and study time in many different ways.
Gap Click is only $2.99 and is free to use forever, including updates without any additional fees.
