British singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her home in north London yesterday, July 23. She was 27 years old. Her short life was fraught with personal issues, she publicly battled drink and drugs, but her immense talent was undeniable.Late Saturday police superintendent Raj Kohli stated outside the singer's house:
"I am aware of reports suggesting this death is the result of a suspected drugs overdose. But I would like to re-emphasise that no post-mortem examination has yet taken place and it would be inappropriate to speculate on the cause of death."
Tragic '27 Club'
Now that Amy has died at the age of 27, she joined the '27 Club', a long and tragic list of well-known musicians who died at the same age including Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, Jim Morrison of The Doors, Janis Joplin, Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix.
Meanwhile British folk singer Billy Bragg had a sober take on membership of the '27 Club':
"It's not age that Hendrix, Jones, Joplin, Morrison, Cobain and Amy have in common - it's drug abuse, sadly."
