Vladimir Petrov was born in Bulgaria in 1986 and began studing percussion at the age of nine. He has performed with many orchestras such as the Opera-Philharmonic Society Ruse, Pleven Philharmonic Orchestra and was solo timpanist of the Junior Philharmonic Orchestra “Emil Chakarov”. He has resided in Linz, Upper Austria since 2006 and has had the opportunity to perform with Bruckner Orchestra Linz as well as the Johan Strauss Ensemble as a percussionist.
Vladimir Petrov’s extensive touring has enabled him to play both as a marimba and percussion soloist in Austria, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Japan and China. In 1999 Mr Petrov was the recipient of the 1st prize at the international Competition for Percussion Instruments “Pendim”, Bulgaria. Two years later, at that same competition, he again received 1st prize as a soloist and was awarded a future 1st prize as a member of the ensemble ”Accent”. In the 2000 edition of the “Young Music Talents” in Sofia, Bulgaria he was the 1st prize winner in the Percussion Competition ”Pendim” he was awarded the “Best Marimba Performance” prize.
In 2007, as a member of the Wave Duo, Mr Petrov received 1st Prize at the Universal Marimba Competition Belgium with his duo partner, Emiko Uchiyama. The duo was also awarded the Sabam Prize for the best interpretation of a set piece, the Keiko Abe prize and the audience award.
After studying jazz drum-set and vibraphone with Hristo Yocov and percussion instrumnents with Simeon Serafimov at the National Music Academy “Pantcho Vladigerov” in Sofia, Bulgaria. Vladimir Petrov moved to Linz, Austria to study at the Bruckner Private University where he now receives percussion tuition from Prof. Leonhard Schmidinger (solo timpanist of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz) as well as marimba tuition from Prof. Bogdan Bacanu.
As well as the Wave Duo, Mr Petrov performs with the percussion ensemble “Accent” and the jazz formation “Eleven”.
