Tyronne Silva was born on July 27, 1973 in Nattandiya in Sri Lanka. Already as a small child he used to listen to a lot of music and had a great interest in drumming. Tyronne always tried to play whatever he heard, but he usually had to play with his hands on his legs or with pens on the desk, as he didn't have a real drum.
Only nine years old, Tyronne Silva built his very own drumset. The bass drum was a huge empty wooden tea box, the pedal was made of wood and a tennis ball served as the kick. Toms were different-sized plastic buckets, and the snare used to be a metallic bucket, percussion were empty cola and nivea cans. All the cymbals were self-cut out of sheet metal. It all worked as a real drumset, even the kick pedal.
A friend of his gave Tyronne Silva drum lessons, and he really learned a lot from him. Some time later he got lessons from his teacher for a few months, and afterwards Tyronne was introduced into drum notation by another teacher. By ten Tyronne Silva was already playing in bands.
Tyronne Silva came to Germany when he was 18, in 1992. Just after four days he was looking for a drum teacher, and his first one was Andreas Reiche, by whom he got to learn the basics of drumming. Tyronne learnt heavy-drumming later with Marcus Rein, who is the current drummer with Destruction. Afterwards he became a pupil of Lutz Renziehausen, author of 'Dums, vols. 1 and 2', and studied technics, different styles, reading and writing notation and much more.
Tyronne Silva attended uncountable concerts, drum workshops and kept endlessly listening to music. Learnt really a lot from Lutz Renziehausen's books 'Dums, vols. 1 and 2', but also from ' Stickcontrol', ' All American Drummer ' and many other books and videos, e.g. Manni von Bohr, Dave Weckl, Terry Bozzio, Billy Cobham, Mike Portnoy, Dennis Chambers, Virgil Donati, Dave Lombardo, Igor Cavelera and many others.
