Stef Bollaert is probably best known as drummer in Kill Spector. Bollaert's parents divorced when he was very young, and Stef used to spend the weekends at his father’s place. That's how Stef Bollaert started to play drums:

"He was a huge jazz fan and exposed me to this music from a very early age by playing jazz records and even taking me to concerts. I must have been around 6 years old when he noticed that I was constantly trying to imitate the rhythm, so he bought me my first toy drum set."

Bollaert bought his first real drum set at the age of twelve:

"Probably inspired more by the name than the sound, I bought a ‘Thunder’ drum kit... Around this time, I also started taking drum lessons.”

When Stef Bollaert was about sixteen, he started playing in his first band, then called Nosferatu, currently called Loner.



Several years later he started to study at the music conservatory in Ghent. Bollaert:

"This was a 5-year course, mainly focussing on jazz. Not really my thing, but I managed to complete it successfully. I did have some very interesting teachers like Koen Liekens, who played with the band K’s choice, Herman Pardon and Lieven Venken."
