"He was a huge jazz fan and exposed me to this music from a very early age by playing jazz records and even taking me to concerts. I must have been around 6 years old when he noticed that I was constantly trying to imitate the rhythm, so he bought me my first toy drum set."Bollaert bought his first real drum set at the age of twelve:
"Probably inspired more by the name than the sound, I bought a ‘Thunder’ drum kit... Around this time, I also started taking drum lessons.”When Stef Bollaert was about sixteen, he started playing in his first band, then called Nosferatu, currently called Loner.
"This was a 5-year course, mainly focussing on jazz. Not really my thing, but I managed to complete it successfully. I did have some very interesting teachers like Koen Liekens, who played with the band K’s choice, Herman Pardon and Lieven Venken."
