Royce Shorter Jr., crowned Guitar Center 2004 Drumoff Champion, is a native of Seattle, Washington who began playing drums at age two. He attended the top music program for high school students in the nation at Garfield High School. Under the guidance of Clarence Acox, Royce and his band mates were given "Best Band" at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival 2001 and 2002.
Upon graduation, Royce Shorter Jr. received a full scholarship to New School University's Jazz & Contemporary program. In the time spent there he was able to study with jazz great Charlie Persip, JoJo Mayer and jazz great Eric Harland.
Royce has played for many professional artists such as, gospel singer Kim Burrell, Hip-Hop artist Q-Tip, and Blue Note recording artist Robert Glasper.
