Ron Welty (Long Beach, California, 1971) started playing drums in 8th Grade, one of his first bands were called F#@k Quality X-Rays.
Ron Welty joined the Offspring when he was only 16, which made him the youngest in the band. Welty replaced James Lilja who had decided to quit in 1987. During their first tour Welty's mother made Dexter Holland sign papers saying he'd take care of Ron for her while they were on tour. Broke his arm while snowboarding in the same week, the album "Smash" was released, (as seen in the Come Out & Play video). Ron broke it again by shoving a dumstick in his cast.
Ron Welty left the band prior to the band's 2004 studio album "Splinter". The album was recorded in L.A. and Atlanta, with The Vandals' drummer Josh Freese sitting in after the departure of Welty. Soon after Adam "Atom" Willard joined The Offspring as a long term replacement.
Ron Welty has also been in another foursome called Spinning Fish for over a decade.
