Robin van Vliet (Zeist, 1961), is the multi-instrumentalist in Slagerij Van Kampen. A unique position in a percussion formation. During the concerts he plays the one and the other instrument. From the keyboards to empty bottles of wine, from the hand percussion to the bass drum. The pieces on the bass guitar, from the beginning of his Slagerij van Kampen career, are by now evolved into rhythm or melodic loops, with sounds to which the other member of the band can hold on. The electronics played by Robin give often a specific atmosphere for the recognizable Slagerij van Kampen “groove”.
The concerts in halls are really magical performances where Robin has seen his own heroes performing. As the public goes so crazy as he did himself, in earlier years. Robin finds that what is impressive of Slagerij van Kampen is the imaginative power of the repertoire. And of course the energy when you play songs like “The Mountain of Mohammed”. To be at the podium as the man with multiple instruments together with four drummers. The sound that comes out to you can be so violent that you are overwhelmed even if you are an experienced musician.
Recently, Robin is interfering as co-producer in a little supporting role also with music. On the basis of the pieces composed by Mies Wilbrink and Willem Kruijsdijk Robin is searching for extra sounds, other music pieces, loops, etc, that can intensify the compositions.
Robin finds a personal challenge in his composition tasks. Besides the performances with the Slagerij Robin works with his partner in their own studio (where “ID” is also recorded) and he records there with his hobby band Secret Combination. In the future he will play gladly with Slagerij van Kampen short, compact sessions, during festivals or in clubs.
