Nick Mason is the drummer from the band Pink Floyd.
Nick Mason was born in Birmingham in 1944. He is of course best known as the drummer in Pink Floyd. When not behind the drums Nicks other passion is motor racing. He has raced extensively in both historic and contemporary cars and competed in five Le Mans 24 hour races.
Pink Floyd is one of the most creative, successful and enduring bands of all time. Nick is the only member of the Floyd to have been part of the band throughout over 40 years of existence. Nick has been able to observe every phase of the band from his drum stool including their time as the darlings of Londons late 60s underground; the deterioration and departure of Syd Barrett; the creation of what is now recognised as the classic Floyd sound; the huge worldwide success of The Dark Side Of The Moon; the mounting pressures and problems within the band; the rift with Roger Waters; and the subsequent decision by Nick and Dave Gilmour to put their reputation on the line and continue as Pink Floyd.
In 1988 he wrote, with Mark Hales, 'Into The Red', a celebration of 21 cars from his collection of classic sports and Race cars. This was followed up with 'A Passion for Speed' & 'Inside Out' a personal history of Pink Floyd in 2000.
Nick has also written for a wide variety of publications including Tatler, Ritz, Ampersand, The Independent, Autosport, Classic Cars, Red Line and Cars for the Connisseur
