Produced by Steve Winwood, this new recording sparkles with the melodies and fire that are so familiar to Netoband fans.
An album featuring Steve Winwood's guitarist with songs that takes nylon string, jazz-oriented guitar into new territory of Brazilian rhythms exploding with the fire of Hendrix, McLaughlin, and the great guitars of all time and beyond.
NETOBAND is the musical vehicle for the songs of Jose Neto, the brilliant Brazilian guitarist and composer. With a tightly-knit band that has been playing and recording since 1994, NETOBAND is a perennial favorite at RONNIE SCOTT'S Jazz Club in London, and other leading nightclubs around the world.
Jose Neto has long been known as an accomplished guitarist and composer. Starting with Harry Belafonte's band in 1983, his work as a bandleader, as well as a sideman led him to form FOURTH WORLD with Flora Purim and Airto Moreira. He has appeared throughout the world on stage with Belafonte, Flora and Airto, and many others; and his fiery and highly original guitar work has recently attracted the interest of Steve Winwood. They have joined together with the latest release from Steve Winwood, ABOUT TIME, which includes three of Neto's songs for which Winwood has written lyrics.
Celso Alberti comes from the south of Brazil. His drumming propels NETOBAND into cascading rhythmic waves with a feel of dynamics that few drummers can hope to realize. He also runs MoonDog Studios in Alameda, CA, where he is a producer of local and international musicians.
Frank Martin is known throughout the Bay Area as one of the freshest and best keyboardists around. His unique style and sounds, coaxed from the cold chips of synthesizers combine with Neto's guitar to provide a marvelous sense of melody and rhythm that is the trademark of the NETOBAND sound. He continuously records and performs a wide range of musical styles, and has been the musical director for many groups and large ensembles.
Gary Brown's bass playing puts NETOBAND in a class of its own. His rhythmic mastery combines with Alberti's drumming to provide a solid, delightful base for the band's twists and turns. His five and six-string basses provide a framework for the other band members to latch onto through audio osmosis.
Cafe is the newest member of the Netoband. He comes from Sao Paulo, Brazil, and has graced the albums and the stage with James Taylor, Roberta Flack, and many others. He brings a strong spiritual side to the Netoband music, while his precise percussion and soulful vocals add much to the sound.
