As a first call professional percussionist, drummer, and educator based out of Chicago, Michael Balter became acutely aware of the need for quality products. Drawing upon years of experience he quickly earned himself a reputation for developing the finest and most extensive line of mallets. Michael Balter serves as the driving force behind the team at Mike Balter Mallets.
Mike Balter has studied under several of the nation's most respected players and teachers including Roy C. Knapp, Jose Bethancourt, Bob Tilles, Louie Bellson, Bobby Christian, Lou Singer, and Al Payson.
After earning his degrees at DePaul University Mike went on to teach drums and percussion at Governor's State University, The American Conservatory of Music, and DePaul University.
As a player, Mike Balter has performed for the National Touring Company of such Broadway hits as A Chorus Line, Pippin, Dancin', Annie, Evita, They're Playin' Our Song, Jerry's Girls, Beatlemania, The Wiz, Joseph, Dreamgirls, Best Little Whorehouse, Grand Tour, Pirates of Penzance, 42nd Street, and Cats to name a few.

For sixteen years Mike Balter had the distinct pleasure of serving on the Executive Board of the Percussive Arts Society (PAS) including an unprecedented eight consecutive terms as PAS Treasurer. He recently received the Distinguished Leadership Award, the only recipient to earn such an honor. Currently, Mike Balter continues his commitment to the organization as a member of the Board of Directors.
