Mel Gaynor (London, 1960) is best known as drummer with the Simple Minds. He became the band's permanent drummer after the departure of previous drummer Mike Ogletree.
While keeping his regular job as drummer for Simple Minds, Mel has toured and recorded with Robert Palmer, Elton John, Heatwave, Lynx, Tina Turner, Gary Moore and The Pretenders as well over the years.

Mel Gaynor was born on the 29th May 1960, in Balham, South London, UK. With a mix of Brazilian, English and Jamaican blood Mel is a true International Artist.
Mel grew up in Colliers Wood, attending Rutlish School for boys in Merton.
Mel started playing at the age of 11 with his Mum's knitting needles. He owned his first small drumkit at 12. At 15 he owned his first professional drumkit.
On leaving school he started his first tour with The Flirtations. He also joined Gonzales and his first band involvement with Birmingham band Muscles.
Starting to record on the brit funk scene in the 80's with bands such as: Lynx, Central-Line, Heatwave and as a member of Light Of The World.
Mel has played alongside top acts such as: Sir Elton John, Tina Turner, Samson, The Associates, The Pretenders, Robert Palmer.
As we all know he's a band member with Simple Minds and Light of the World, along with beginning his adventures as a solo artist.
