Matt Butler is a performer, producer and composer who creates engaging, genre-bending music. He is currently performing solo and with The Matt Butler Band, promoting Good Options, his latest release.
Matt Butler creates organic grooves and songs with Native American drums, didgeridoo, trapset and vocals. Good Options features stellar guest performances by Dr. Didg and members of Hanuman and Jambay, making it unique yet familiar with a danceable, catchy groove. We call it psychedelic folk world jam music. Matt Butler’s debut CD, The Redwood Project is a benefit CD to help protect California’s ancient redwood ecosystem and was featured in the Grateful Dead Almanac.
For more than eight years, Matt Butler was the drummer for West Coast jam band Jambay. With over 1,000 performances to their credit, Jambay frequented music festivals such as Horde, Laguna Seca Daze, Hogfarm Pignic and Bumbershoot. Jambay also worked with Ken Kesey as the pit band for his play Twister.
Matt Butler also spends time as a studio drummer and has recorded with such producers as David Gleeson (Third Eye Blind), Booker T. Jones, and Barrett Jones (Foo Fighters, Bush). He is also the founder and facilitator of The Everyone Orchestra, a revolving cast of stellar musicians who come together to showcase their craft, improvise and raise funds for a good cause.
