Kevin "Figg" Figueiredo plays drums in Population 1, the band featuring former Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, Joe Pessia and Steve Ferlazzo. He also hits the skins with Satellite Party, featuring ex-Jane's Addiction and Porno For Pyros frontman Perry Farell, and Perry's sister Etty Lau Farrell.
Kevin "Figg" Figueiredo was born on January 12th in Hudson, Massachusetts, where he grew up listening to music and playing in bands. Figg received his first drum set from his grandfather when he was ten years old. Early in his musical career, Figg started playing along with albums, eventually playing gigs at local clubs and parties in a cover band with his brother Steven and sister Susan.
During his years in Hudson, Figg focused on his dream of becoming a working drummer and joined the New England touring rock band Jab N The Groove. Subsequently, Figg recorded drum tracks for EMI/Portugal artist Lucia Moniz's release 67. In the 2001 and 2002, Figg toured all of Portugal with Lucia in support of her CD release.
Upon returning to Massachusetts from Portugal in September 2002, Kevin met with Nuno Bettencourt who played Kevin tracks from his upcoming Universal/Japan release, Population 1. In preparation for an upcoming Japanese tour in support of the Population 1 CD, Nuno asked Figg to come to Los Angeles and audition for Population 1. While touring Japan and Korea, Figg was asked by Nuno to join Population 1. Figg has since relocated to Los Angeles and is currently writing, singing and recording for Population 1's next Universal/Japan release, due in Fall of 2004.
Figg is versatile in a variety of styles (rock, funk, jazz, latin, afro-cuban, etc.), having studied with jazz drummer Bob Gulliotti and rock drummer Mike Mangini (Steve Vai, Missing Persons, Extreme). Figg's influences are as varied as the styles he plays, they include John Bonham, David Garabaldi, Dave Grohl, Stewart Copeland, Phil Rudd, Steve Adler, Joey Kramer, Phil Collins, Neal Peart, Carter Beauford, as well as countless others.
