Jivan Sureel (Eindhoven, 1968) is known as drummer with Tory Torino, and Orphanage. Other bands Sureel played in are Awesome Dudes from Hell (from 1995 until 2001), Chleb (1997-2000, releasing the "Endless supply" demo in 2000), Ned Zeppelin (tribute to Led Zeppelin, 1998-2000), Onya and Milarepa.



Jivan Sureel started playing drums when he was ten years old. He also plays claypot, an Indian/African drum made out of clay that sounds a bit like tabla.



For six years Sureel took lessons during highschool from a teacher called Jan Voermans, "a true master" according to Sureel.



With The Police, Helmet, Deftones, Kyuss and Meshuggah as mucial sources of inspiration, he started out playing in bands at age fourteen.



Early 1995 Jivan Sureel toured for two weeks in the French Alpes with a coverband. During the summer of 1999 he toured for four months in Europe and the U.S., doing Indian meditative and danceable stuff with five people he had met in India before.



In June 2000 he auditioned for Orphanage and got the job, replacing Erwin Polderman.



Since 2002 Jivan Sureel has played in Garcia as well, releasing a demo early 2005: "Good is Evil". Sureel descirbes their style as Faith No More meets Helmet. The band's line-up is compelted by Ed van Oosterhout, Marco Leijtens and Hanno Thomassen.
