Javier Barrera was born in April 1974 into a family of musicians in México City. He studied music at Ollin Yolistli under Armando Zerquera. He and his three brothers also learned composition, orchestration, classical and jazz piano from Professor Ignacio Gutierrez Campoy and the famous pianist, Walter Norris. Their group, B4, has been very important to the México City jazz scene and Javier Barrerahas been very involved in the jazz and pop environment of México and around the world.
Among his many musical accomplishments, Javier Barrera was the drummer and musical director for Alejandra Guzman for seven years and the musical producer of the Alejandra Guzman Live DVD and CD for BMG. For all of the shows for the famous singer, Emmanuel, Javier was the drummer musical director, arranger, and live producer.He also served as musical director for Alessandra, Miguel Inzunsa, Ragazzi, La Quinta Estacion and for the television program, “Todo Se Vale.” He is also the creator and director of the handicapped infant orchestra Crit, in the state of México.
Javier Barrera has been the drummer for Emmanuel, Yequina Pavon, Kabah, Denisse De Kalaf, Eduardo Capetillo, Ernesto Dalesio, Osmany Paredes, 40 Grados, Joao Enrique, Willi Guiterrez, Jarocho, Belinda, Martín Rica, Reily, Neife Peña and La Quinta Estacion.
Javier Barrera has also shared the stage with international musical stars such as: Al Di Miola, Gregg Bissonette, Marco Minnemann, Denis Chambers, Pat Martino, Makoto Ozone, Diego Urcola, James Jenus, Clarence Penn, Johnny Rabb, Derico Watson, Zoro and Bobby Jarzomberk.
