Jared Crawford a.k.a. "Choclatt", is a musician, producer, singer and song writer who began playing drums at the age of three. He first gained recognition as one of the original, World-Renowned Bucket Drummers, playing on the subways and sidewalks of New York City. It was while he was bucket drumming on Broadway that Jared was brought to the attention of George C. Wolfe by Savion Glover. As a result, Glover asked Jared to choreograph all of the on-stage percussion and be featured performer in the Tony Award winning musical Bring In Da Noise/Bring In Da Funk!
Following hot on the heels of Noise/Funk, Jared created and starred in the critically acclaimed musical Keep Bangin. It was during this period that his singing talents came to the fore, with many hailing his voice as "the new Al Green." Jared's unique vocal style blends elements of soul, R&B & Hip-Hop, with lyrics that are clearly heartfelt but always manage to "keep it real."
His talents were also recognized by Grammy Award winner Lauryn Hill, and Jared can be heard on her album "The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill," including the hit song "Zion" featuring Carlos Santana. He toured the United States, Europe, and Japan with her as a backup singer and band drummer/percussionist and is the only band member with a "Feature Solo Performance" in her tour.
Jared has also sung backup and was the band drummer/percussionist for Aretha Franklin's Grammy Tour, Kelis and Britney Spears whom he toured with recently. He has also worked with such artists as Usher and the late Gregory Hines and recently appreared and performed with Alicia Keys in her latest video "Karma".
His drumming credits include: featured drummer at the Pan Percussion Festival in Bahia, the International Music Festival held in Bell Horizante Brazil, and also the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics.
His movie credits include "Sliver" starring Sharon Stone and a featured role in "Conspiracy Theory" starring Mel Gibson.
TV credits include The Tonight Show, David Letterman, several appearances, including a solo appearance, on Saturday Night Live, The Rosie O'Donnell Show, LIVE with Regis Philbin and Kathy Lee Gifford, The Queen Latifa Show and the ABC Millennium 2000 Special to list a few. Jared has also performed at the 1997 President Inaugural Gala, The Grammy Awards, The Tony Awards, MTV Music Awards, Billboard Awards, etc.
