Janwillem van der Poll (The Hague) has been a member of Percossa since 1993. The music he writes for the group finds its origin either in Japanese Taiko or Minimal Music. He likes to incorporate a dramatic touch to all of his pieces. In his work for Japanese drums he tries to achieve this by composing from a visual starting point (movement). In his melodic, minimal pieces, that initially lean on the composition style of people like Steve Reich and Philip Glass, he's also influenced by Hollywood film music.
