Ed Freitas was taught to play piano at the early age of 6 due to his mum being a music teacher, but even at that age expressed a strong interest in drums. At 12 he finally got his first drum kit and has since worked with bands/artistes in all major genres – rock, jazz, pop, grunge, metal, marching, classic, folk, electronica, gospel, light contemporary, theatre and more.
Ed Freitas won numerous awards and Colours at national level in individual drumming competitions. Most of these were snare drum based. In the late 90s Ed released a couple of solo recorded works, an album titled RAID and an EP titled Steel Dance.
Ed's taught hundreds of drummers internationally, also introducing numerous people to the world of drums through presenting drum workshops and clinics. More recently, he's begun gaining popularity rapidly as a top drum circle and workshop facilitator at corporate and community events throughout the UK and European mainland.
Ed Freitas founded Drummerbuzz in 2002 initially as a resource for his students, now a growing business providing numerous drumming services which include hosting special events, drum workshops, fundraising for charity and even boasting a performing team! See www.drummerbuzz.com for info.
Ed Freitas is also Director of WFD UK (Extreme Sport Drumming / World's Fastest Drummer in the UK). He recently appeared on numerous television channels including the Richard and Judy show with Terl Bryant, in which they performed a live drum solo and went on to set a standard in fastest drumming for the UK.
Ed also plays guitar, an instrument which he's also toured and recorded with in numerous outfits. Drums, however, continue being his priority and instrument of choice. Ed is also a songwriter and producer, having worked with various artistes internationally in both capacities.
