Dirk Bruinenberg is born on August 21, 1968 in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel, near Rotterdam. He starts playing drums at age twelve.
Bruinenberg names Neil Peart, Deen Castronovo, John Bonham, Ian Paice, and Cozy Powel as sources of musical inspiration.
In 1994 drummer Ed Warby decides to leave sympho-metallers Elegy in favour of death metal band Gorefest. Warby gets replaced by Serge Meeuwsen, who stays only for a short time. Dirk Bruinenberg joins Eley and becomes a permanent member.
Previously he played in Church of Indulgence, a project with Stephan Gebédi and Erwin de Brouwer of thrash metal band Thanatos. He also played in heavy metal band Vulture in the early eighties. With the latter band Bruinenberg shared the stage with metal icons like Manowar, Laaz Rockit and Overkill.
Dirk Bruinenberg als plays with Ian Parry's Consortium Project, in Adagio and with French guitar hero Patrick Rondat.
He has also worked with Kamelot and is currently working with singer David Readman of Pink Cream 69 and Adagio repute.
