Arnold Marinissen (The Netherlands) studied percussion at the Royal Conservatorium in The Hague with Wim Vos and Luuk Nagtegaal. In 1991 he graduated with distinction, and received the Prize for the Best Exam of the Year. Since then, he has been active in the fields of solo, chamber and symphonic music, and has worked intensively with African musicians like Doudou and Ali N'Diaye Rose from Senegal and Venancio Mbande from Mozambique .





He played solo repertoire throughout the Netherlands, in Darmstadt, Detmold, Hanover, Paris, Zagreb, Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin etc. Several works were composed for him. In 2003, Marinissen's first solo CD Traces of Cultures was released by BVHaast. His second CD, Layered Rhythms, appeared February 2004. He also made CD recordings of Richard Rijnvos' Stalker for solo percussion, Franco Donatoni's Omar for solo vibraphone and Michel van der Aa's Solo for Percussion.





Marinissen performed works for solo percussion and orchestra by André Jolivet, Iannis Xenakis and Toru Takemitsu with the Residentie Orkest and the Orchestra of the Royal Conservatorium The Hague. He appeared as a soloist in Harrison Birtwistle's Panic with the Noordhollands Philharmonisch Orkest and with the Residentie Orkest, in Darius Milhaud's Concerto for percussion and small orchestra with the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, in Iannis Xenakis' O-Mega for solo percussion and ensemble with the Nieuw Ensemble, and in Richard Rodney Bennett's Concerto for percussion and orchestra with the Zeeuws Orkest. He performed Milhaud's Concerto for Marimba, Vibraphone and Orchestra in New Zealand.





Arnold Marinissen is a member of the Ives Ensemble, Ensemble S and the Doelenensemble Rotterdam, and formerly of the Percussion Group The Hague, of which he was also artistic director. He regularly plays with the ASKO Ensemble, Schönberg Ensemble, Nieuw Ensemble (Amsterdam), Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Ensemble Modern (Frankfurt), Ensemble MusikFabrik (Düsseldorf), Das Neue Ensemble (Hannover) etc. With these ensembles he has done many CD recordings.



Marinissen teaches percussion at the Fontys Conservatorium, Tilburg, the Netherlands, and has given lessons and workshops in Amsterdam, Detmold, in Sydney, Brisbane, Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin. He has also been member of the jury in various exams and competitions; in September 2001 he was jury member for the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, Germany.



In November 2004, Marinissen appeared as a soloist with Schlagquartett Köln and the WDR Symphony Orchestra in Cologne. In December, Marinissen performed a duo programme with the Canadian soprano Barbara Hannigan for the Nederlandse Muziekdagen in Vredenburg, Utrecht.



The beginning of 2005 was the release of a third CD for BVHaast, Percussionist Songs. Marinissen was Artist in Residence at the Dutch Traces of Rhythm Festival which took place between 7 and 16 January 2005 in Tilburg, Eindhoven, Den Bosch and Breda.
