Codes & Keys is a metalcore band from Doylestown, PA. I tracked three tunes for 'em, writing the parts in a day and tracking the next, if memory serves. This is pretty dense, mechanical music and because of the intricacy of some of the parts, I rehearsed each tune 20 - 40 BPM slower before jumping in the deep end. Thankfully, Taylor could tend to other projects while my limbs got -- pardon the pun -- 'up to speed', heh.
I used Taylor's personal bass drum and snare and my own Pearl Reference Pure tom-toms. I'm playing the rack tom in front quite simply for a change; I haven't tracked any heavy stuff with this setup in a while. For fans of my usual weird setup, don't fret, hehe - I've done plenty of other projects out of Oceanic with it. The cymbals are 13" BRT/DRK hats, a 19" BRT crash, 8" BRT splash, 16" ALT china, 21" NRG ride, 18" BRT crash, and a 19" LTD custom china (older model). I took a listen to the demos before leaving for Oceanic, and felt that the inclusion of a mini china could sound cool and brought it along for the ride.
