This young fellow is drummer extraordinaire Thomas Lang in 2004, when Drummerszone recorded him at the very first edition of the Adams Drumworld Festival. Camera's weren't that great back then - especially no audio and the absense of good limiters on live drum recordings, so here is the best we could make of it. Back then we actually thought we had the best Sony camera ever!
Artists perfoming at the Adams Drumworld Festival 2004 were:
Billy Cobham | Ton Dijkman | Raymond Herveille | Thomas "The Druminator" Lang | Mike Mangini | Michael Schack | Jamie Westland
Some background info for the fun of it:
This footage was recorded in the second year after we launched Drummerszone.com. Thomas was already one of those Drummer's Drummers. Back then, we added this footage to Drummerszone.com with Realplayer streams (two files needed for streaming), or Windows Media files. The costs for copyrights and protection of streaming files were simply ridiculous.
Back then you actually needed to watch the bandwith for streaming. Because first, too much site views was very expensive (the cloud was no where near to be invented) and video was the most expensive thing. And second... YouTube didn't exist in 2004.
The world has changed after Google made the bold move to buy it in 2006 and release the platform to the world. Videos are becoming the core of social media. However, you makes us happy reading our articles and checking our content as well, to learn more about the 15,000+ artists we have on Drummerszone.com.
In the meantime we'll keep uploading our catalogue to YouTube as fast as we can. With the 850 or so online now, we are not even at half of the footage we have already published through the years - and all streaming from the Drummerszone server.
