Ralph Peterson live at PASIC 2013
November 14, 2013
Song title - "Humpty Dumpty"
Check out Ralph's Meinl Cymbals set up specs at the end of the video.
This performance was from Ralph's November 14, 2013 performance at PASIC 2013 in Indianapolis, IN. Ralph was the first drum set artist of the weekend and he packed the large ballroom where his clinic was held, and made a lot of jaws drop in the process. This clip is of Ralph playing along to the Chick Corea track "Humpty Dumpty."
Ralph is "one of the last mohicans" as my friend Joe Hibbs from Mapex Drums likes to say. At 21 years old, he was the last drummer to be personally selected by the legendary jazz drummer Art Blakey to play in his Jazz Messengers Big Band. The last drummer that the legendary Elvin Jones called to sub for him on a gig...Ralph Peterson. Just those two credentials alone speak to Ralph's pedigree. Young enough to still be hip, but having been able to spend time under the tutelage of jazz legends that are no longer with us, Ralph is in the unique position of straddling two different worlds.
He's been a bandleader for 17 albums that he's released and has been a full professor at Berklee College of Music for 11 years now.
Regarding the sound you hear with this video - provided you are listening to the video through decent ear-buds or head phones or decent speakers connected to your computer, you should be able to hear a reasonable audio recording based off of the Zoom Q3HD which was one of three cameras used to record this. The other two cameras are the Go Pro Hero 3 Silver edition model. Their audio is nowhere near as good as the Zoom Q3HD, so that is why I went with it for the sound.
