Paul Gilbert - Orderly And Distinctly
WROC is my first vocal album since 2016. The lyrics were inspired by the etiquette book, "George Washington's Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior." I truly enjoyed turning Washington's Rules of Civility (WROC) into ROCK songs! I hope my vocal and guitar melodies will stir your heart and improve your table manners. Spit Not in the Fire!
"Orderly and Distinctly" - Written and Produced by Paul Gilbert
Lyrics inspired by Washington Rules: 35, 80, 69, 73, 99, and 4
Six different Washington rules went into this one! My favorite is "Be not tedious, unless you find the company pleased therewith." Does this mean that if there is a supportive audience, it's all right for me to play guitar solos that are way too long? Rule #80 says "Yes! Play those long solos!" Speaking of solos, the one in this song is of average length. But just to make sure it didn't become "tedious," I overdubbed a cowbell. This raises the question of "how much" cowbell should be in the mix. We all know there is only one answer to that.

LYRICS:
LET YOUR DISCOURSE WITH MEN OF BUSINESS
BE SHORT AND COMPREHENSIVE
BE NOT TEDIOUS, UNLESS YOU FIND
THE COMPANY PLEASED THEREWITH
AND BE NOT OBSTINATE IN CONTENTION
WITH YOUR OWN OPINION
IN THINGS INDIFFERENT, INDIFFERENT
BE OF THE MAJOR SIDE
THINK BEFORE YOUR SPEAK
PRONOUNCE NOT IMPERFECTLY
NOR BRING OUT WORDS TOO HASTILY, AH
LET YOUR DISCOURSE WITH MEN OF BUSINESS
BE SHORT AND COMPREHENSIVE
BE NOT TEDIOUS , UNLESS YOU FIND
THE COMPANY PLEASED THEREWITH
AND BE NOT OBSTINATE IN CONTENTION
WITH YOUR OWN OPINION
IN THINGS INDIFFERENT, INDIFFERENT
BE OF THE MAJOR SIDE
THINK BEFORE YOUR SPEAK
PRONOUNCE NOT IMPERFECTLY
NOR BRING OUT WORDS TOO HASTILY, AH
BUT ORDERLY AND DISTINCTLY
ORDERLY AND DISTINCTLY
ORDERLY AND DISTINCTLY
ORDERLY AND DISTINCTLY
NOT TOO LEISURELY HAVE A DRINK
OR WITH TOO GREAT A NOISE
IN THE PRESENCE OF OTHERS SING
NOT TO YOURSELF
OR WITH A HUMMING NOISE
THINK BEFORE YOUR SPEAK
PRONOUNCE NOT IMPERFECTLY
NOR BRING OUT WORDS TOO HASTILY, AH
BUT ORDERLY AND DISTINCTLY
ORDERLY AND DISTINCTLY
ORDERLY AND DISTINCTLY
ORDERLY AND DISTINCTLY
NOT TOO LEISURELY HAVE A DRINK
OR WITH TOO GREAT A NOISE
IN THE PRESENCE OF OTHERS SING
NOT TO YOURSELF
OR WITH A HUMMING NOISE
