About Zakir Hussain
A classical tabla virtuoso, Zakir Hussain is one of the sons of the legendary musician and guru, Ustad Alla Rakha. Zakir is appreciated both in the field of percussion and in the music world at large as an international phenomenon and one of the greatest musicians of our time.

Zakir's playing is marked by uncanny intuition and masterful improvisational dexterity, founded in formidable knowledge and study. His many historic collaborations include artists as diverse as John McLaughlin, Mickey Hart, Eric Harland, George Harrison, YoYo Ma, Van Morrison, Airto Moreira, Pharoah Sanders, Billy Cobham, and the Kodo drummers.

About Masters of Percussion 2012
Masters of Percussion are an outgrowth of Zakir Hussain's memorable tours with his father. They have enjoyed successful tours in the West since 1996.

Joining the 2012 tour are Zakir's brother Fazal Qureshi on tabla and kanjira (South Indian frame drum); T.H.V. Umashankar on ghatam (clay pot or water jug); Navin Sharma on dholak (hand-drum); Abbos Kosimov on doyra (medium-sized frame drum); Rakesh Chaurasia on bansuri (bamboo flute); Sabir Khan on sarangi (bowed string instrument) plus Meitei Pung Cholom as dancing drummer of Manipur, and kathak dancer Antonia Minnecola as special guest.
