Sabian's new introductions at NAMM were impressive enough to feature them all. On the video level, we just have to kick off with the news and videos of Chili Peppers' drummer Chad Smith and his new 'Holy China'. 'The Loudest Cymbal on the planet', as is the claim. And they are probably right. Chad's Holy China is fully introduced in the videos below, where even Chad himself gives some serious insights on his new loud hittig chinese cymbal. Better yet, he offers a complete new idea on the use and production of cymbals as well...

In our following Sabian articles on NAMM 2011 you will get much more info on the other products Sabian presented at NAMM 2011. Jojo Mayer's 'Omni' will be a big part of it, including a detailed video interview with Jojo, talking about his new multi tasking ride & crash cymbal.
Right now, the focus is on Chad's Holy China. And, we (and probably everybody hearing it) have to admit: 'Holy China! This is one hell of a loud a cymbal!' As fun as the presentation and the fun around the whole marketing issue is, the cymbal is a pretty loud one. But, while having that high pitch, it turns out to be a china that is a versatile product, to be used in many musical settings. The use of this cymbal varies in many different ways; you just have to try it, in a musical setting that you see fit.
All of the videos with this article are just as informing as they are entertaining, with Chad starring as the natural born Sabian star in all of them.
And, just for the record: in the making of the Holy China, Sabian found out that: "[...] as it turns out, to make the loudest China, you just have to put a lot of holes in it." There are 51 holes in the 19" and 64 holes in the 21" model. Perhaps it is wise, you don't try this at home with your personal and valuable cymbals! Make sure you check the available finishes in Natural and Bronze at the Sabian website.
