Roland has launched the SPD::ONE Percussion Pad Series, four Digital Percussion Pads for drummers, percussionists, DJ's, guitarists, or just any musical situation that you want to use them. The four pads are named the One Kick. the One Percussion, the One Electro and the One Wav and all have different functions and possibilities. The pads are light, have four knobs to control sound and can play them with sticks, hands or feet. Naturally, the application of the pads differs, so here's a quick rundown of the most important features of the pads, with demo videos of Kaz Rodriguez, Vikaash Sankadecha and Michael Vickers included.

The Roland SPD::ONE KICK The One Kick contains 22 realistic percussion sounds, including kick drums, stomp box, shakers, cowbells and more. You can import your own audio data into one of the 12 internal sound banks.
You can adjust sensitivity and trigger threshold settings by using two control dials on the side of the unit. With the four knobs on the control panel you can change sound, volume, balance, and more.
In this video, musician Michael Vickers mounts the SPD::ONE KICK pad at his feet and uses it to provide a four-on-the-floor beat to accompany his performance.
SPD::ONE PERCUSSION The One Percussion also has 22 sounds but focused on percussion, including snares, hi-hats, cymbals, shakers, tambourines, and more.
In this video, Roland artist Vikaash Sankadecha mounts the SPD-1P PERCUSSION pad within his set-up and plays it by hand, using it to add additional tones and textures to his percussion performance as he plays along with a backing track.

The Roland SPD::ONE ELECTRO Also 22 sounds, but now more focused on the 'electric' artist. The sounds include fat snares, electronic cowbells, TR-808, TR-909, crisp hand clap sounds and much more. Via USB, you can import WAV audio files up to five seconds by dragging and dropping your files. The One Wav Pad is better equipped for longer samples with the 4 GB internal hard drive.

SPD::ONE WAV PAD The One Wav Pad is the big brother of the four pads. You can import audio by connecting to a PC or Mac and dragging your WAV files into the drive that appears. And, as said, it has an internal 4 GB drive that can hold up to 360 minutes of stereo audio.
In this video, Roland artist Kaz Rodriguez has pre-loaded his own backing track on to the SPD-1W. He hits the pad to start the track whilst you hear the stereo audio from the SPD-1W output, Kaz hears his own mix, including a click that is synced with the track, in his in-ear monitors via the separate headphone output.
In this video, Roland artist Kaz Rodriguez connects the SPD::ONE WAV PAD to his computer via USB and copies his own click track and backing track directly onto the SPD::ONE WAV PAD drive. We can hear the personal mix that Kaz himself hears via the phones output. While Kaz is performing, we can hear the track being played back from the SPD::ONE WAV PAD via the stereo master output.

MIDI controllers for DAWs With the built-in USB-MIDI support the pads can be used as a compact digital pad controller for a computer Digital Audio Workstation, or DAW. This so you can play software-based sounds or add MIDI percussion tracks and much more.
Mounting adapter The pads can be floor or tabletop mounted, or fitted to drum hardware and mic stands using the included mounting adapter.
The pads run on batteries (4 x AA) or AC adaptor
