Roadburn is a festival in celebration of thunderous drums and tube-driven distorted electric guitars. Heavy and loud are the key words with a line-up of psychedelic and stoner rock and drone metal acts, varying from down-tuned straight (hard)rock to experimental slurry core. This festival is about loud, louder, loudest!

On April 20th and 21th the twelfth edition of the Roadburn Festival took place at 013, a venue in Tilburg, The Netherlands. You can read our review of day 1 at this location. Below you can find a review of day 2.
Acid King Saturday, April 21st, 2007. Roadburn\'s second day starts with Acid King. The glacially-paced downtuned riffs of guitarist and singer Lori S. and bassist Rafa Martinez (also drummer for Black Cobra), are properly accompanied by the swinging drums of Joey Osbourne. The power trio makes sure that day two of the festival begins just as loud and heavy as day one.
The Hidden Hand Scott “Wino” Weinrich and his band The Hidden Hand are next. Their musical styles range from slow doom to blistering hard rock with down-tuned guitars, wrenching riffs and Wino\'s characteristic vocals. Matt Moulis, who previously played in DC area bands Medic and Bison, does a great job with his swinging play.
Red Sparowes Esoteric melodic guitar-surrealists Red Sparowes deliver sweet instrumental postrock. Compared to Neurosis and Isis, these guys opt for a different kind of dynamics: it\'s soft-loud instead of loud-louder-loudest, more in the veins of Explosions in The Sky. Red Sparowes deliver epic songs, thanks to David Clifford\'s hypnotising drums and the multiple guitar layers. A few times bassist Greg Burns switches to pedal steel guitar, adding a bit extra to their distinctive sound. The film parts projected on the wall behind the band do the rest. Another highlight of Roadburn 2007!
Om Drummer Chris Haikus and bassist/vocalist Al Cisneros form two-piece band Om. Both played in Sleep previously. Their stripped down, voluminous bass extrapolations and stomping drum mantras (Haikus is using a huge 24\" Gretsch bass drum) are a bit of a wake-up call after Red Sparowes\' filmic soundscapes.
Pelican Meanwhile over at the festival\'s Green Room (the second stage), instrumental sorcerers Pelican show their brand of instrumental songs with melancholic elements, but with metal influences as well. Drummer Larry Herweg is the first one this day who plays double bass, even though it is only for a minor part during one song.
Neurosis Seminal American drone-metal and psychedelic hard rock evangelists Neurosis headline the second day of Roadburn Festival 2007. Hailing from Oakland, drummer Jason Roeder and the rest of the band have flown over for a one-off show. Their apocalyptic songs with massive guitar riffs and heavy, hypnotic drums are poured out over the audience with a high volume. Dark and intense. And very impressive. In particular Jason Roeder.
Though Neurosis never gets fast, Roeder plays with a lot of swing and keeps up the energy by using triplets and sixlets. He also incorporates his toms in many of his grooves, not to mention his tasteful accents and rolling fills. At the end of the show he helps his band to a musical climax with his repetitious play. A great way to finish this festival.
We will definitely bask in the heaviness again at Roadburn 2008!
