After 15 years playing with Rancid, original drummer and founding member Brett Reed (photo) has decided to depart. Reasons for his departure are unexplained, but according to a press release, the split was amicably.

Reed most recently played on 2003\'s album \"Indestructable\", released by Hellcat Records.
The drum stool has not stayed vacant for long, as Rancid tapped Branden Steinekert as their new drummer. Steinekert previously played with The Used. They have yet to fill the vacancy left by Steinekert\'s desertion.
